Mohammad Mohakik, a former member of the Afghan parliament, said that eight children died of hunger in the western part of the country's capital. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

"Poverty and hunger have killed eight children in western Kabul," the politician said, noting that the Hazara community lives in this area.

Mohakik added that the Taliban movement that came to power (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) does not provide an adequate standard of living for the people, and called on the international community to help the Hazaras and Shiites of Afghanistan.

In September, the head of the UN assistance mission in Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, warned that without financial assistance from the international community to Afghanistan, a massive famine would begin in the country. She pointed out that foreign countries blocked Afghanistan's access to billions of dollars of financial assets and donor funds so that they would not go to the Taliban.
