The UK will send two patrol ships to the island of Jersey, which is in the English Channel, after France threatened to cut off power to the crown estate in protest at changes to fishing conditions after Brexit. This was stated by the official representative of the Office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, reports CNN.

According to him, the head of the British government, Boris Johnson, discussed with the authorities of Jersey the possibility of a blockade of the island by France. He said that Johnson noted the need to de-escalate tensions between Paris and the Jersey administration. However, the prime minister expressed his unwavering support for Jersey and stressed that any blockade would be absolutely illegal, a government spokesman said.

Earlier it was reported that the French authorities wanted to expel British banks as a response to the restrictions imposed by London on fishing in its waters. The French Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Clement Bon, announced possible retaliatory measures. According to him, Paris suspects the UK of non-compliance with its own obligations under Brexit. They relate to the provision of free access to British territorial waters for fishing vessels from EU countries.
