The Czech Embassy in Moscow dismissed 71 Russian citizens as part of the reduction of the diplomatic mission on a parity basis. This was announced on May 25 by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Eva Davidova, her words are reported by RIA Novosti.

"The notice of dismissal was received by 71 locally hired [Russian] employees at the Czech Embassy in Moscow, at the Czech House and at the Czech Center," Davidova said, adding that eight more people will be dismissed by the end of May. Thus, the total number of reduced employees will reach 79 people.

In accordance with the decision of the Russian side, 19 Russians will remain working for the Czech Embassy.

Earlier it was reported that representatives of the Russian Embassy, which is reduced on a parity basis with the Czech side to the level of "seven diplomats + 25 technical employees", will leave Prague on May 29 and 31.

Relations between Moscow and Prague have deteriorated after the Czech Republic accused Russian security services of involvement in the explosions at an ammunition depot in Vrbetice, which killed two people. The bombings occurred in late 2014. As a result, 18 diplomats were expelled from the Czech Republic, whom Prague suspects of working for the special services. Moscow responded by declaring 20 employees of the Czech embassy persona non grata. Later it became known that Russia and the Czech Republic will equalize the number of employees in the embassies.
